14. Adding new devices

As well as giving you flexible control, the Genius Hub system is easy to expand if you decide to add to it later.

Creating a new zone

If you need to create a new zone to add the device to:

1. Click on 'Create New Zone' in the My House sub-menu.

2. Enter the name of the zone you are creating.

3. Select the type of control you need, such as On/Off if you are adding a Smart Plug, Radiator if you are controlling a room with Wireless Radiator Valves, or Group for a group zone.

4. Click 'Create'.

Add a device

Demonstration

To add a new device to your system:

1. From the My House page, click on the Main Menu at the top right-hand corner of the app.

2. Click on Settings, then Devices.

3. Click 'Include Device' on the Quick Actions bar at the bottom of the screen.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Assign a device

Once the device has been added, you need to assign it to a zone:

1. Click on the zone you want to add the device to.

2. Click on the zone sub-menu, then 'Zone Setup'.

3. Click on 'Assign device'.

4. Find the number of the device you want to assign to the zone (this will have been shown on screen when you added the device, or is on a sticker if it was part of your original system).

5. Select the device and click 'Assign Devices'.

Assign a channel

It is sometimes useful to add a single channel to a zone, rather than the whole device. A channel is a single part of a device, such as its measured temperature.

To assign a channel:

1. Click on the zone you want to add the channel to.

2. Click on the zone sub-menu, then 'Zone Setup'.

3. Click on 'Assign device'.

4. Click on 'Show details' above the list of devices.

5. Find the number of the device you want to assign the channel from (this will have been shown on screen when you added the device, or is on a sticker if it was part of your original system).

6. Select the channel and click 'Assign Devices'.

Adding the Communications Adapter

If you are adding a Communications Adapter to an existing Genius Hub, you need to follow the steps below before adding your first Wireless Radiator Valve (DA-WRV-E) or Smart Plug (PH-PLG-E).

First, make sure your Genius Hub is running software version 6.3.10 or above. If it isn't:

1. On the My House page, click on the System tile.

2. Follow the instructions under the blue circle to install the latest software.

1. Shut down the Genius Hub, as described in Restarting the Genius Hub, and unplug its power cable.

2. Insert the Communications Adapter into the USB port on the bottom of the Genius Hub.

3. Plug the white, round power cable back into the bottom of the Genius Hub.

4. The Communications Adapter will come online when the Genius Hub restarts. You can now add Wireless Radiator Valves and Smart Plugs, as described in Add a device above.

Preparing your 'Genius Starter Kit' for zoning

If you started your Genius Hub system with a Genius Starter Kit and want to begin adding Wireless Radiator Valves, you need to follow the steps below before adding your first valve:

1. Go to your single 'Heating' zone.

2. Click on the zone sub-menu, followed by 'Zone Setup'.

3. Under the list of devices, remove all of the devices from this zone.

4. Click on 'Delete this zone' to remove this zone from your system.

5. Click on the My House icon to return to the My House page.

6. Click on the My House sub-menu, followed by 'My House Setup'.

7. On the Quick Actions bar, click on 'Assign device'.

8. Select the 'Single Channel Receiver' and the 'Room Thermostat', then click 'Assign Devices'.

Preparing your 'Genius Starter Kit + Hot Water' for zoning

If you started your Genius Hub system with a Genius Starter Kit + Hot Water and want to begin adding Wireless Radiator Valves, you need to follow the steps below before adding your first valve:

1. Go to your single 'Heating' zone.

2. Click on the zone sub-menu, followed by 'Zone Setup'.

3. Under the list of devices, make a note of which Dual Channel Receiver channel is assigned to this zone.

4. Remove all of the devices from this zone.

5. Click on 'Delete this zone' to remove this zone from your system.

6. Click on the My House icon to return to the My House page.

7. Click on the My House sub-menu, followed by 'My House Setup'.

8. On the Quick Actions bar, click on 'Assign device'.

9. Select the Dual Channel Receiver channel that was previously assigned to 'Heating', and the 'Room Thermostat', then click 'Assign Devices'.

Adding the 'Hot Water Time and Temperature addon' to your system

If you started your Genius Hub system with a Genius Starter Kit + Hot Water and want to begin controlling the temperature of your hot water tank with the Hot Water Time and Temperature addon (Electric Switch and Temperature Probe), follow the steps below:

1. Follow the instructions in the Doctor to add the 'Hot Water Time and Temperature addon' to the system, making a note of its device ID number.

2. To create the boiler-fed hot water zone:

   1. Go to your 'Hot Water' zone.

   2. Click on the zone sub-menu, followed by 'Zone Setup'.

   3. Remove the Dual Channel Receiver channel from the zone, making a note of its device ID number and channel number.

   4. Delete the 'Hot Water' zone.

   5. Create a new zone of the type 'Hot Water Temperature'.

   6. Assign the Dual Channel Receiver channel you removed from the old Hot Water zone.

   7. Assign the 'Temperature' channel from the addon you added in step 1.

3. If you are also using the Hot Water Time and Temperature addon to control an immersion heater:

   1. Create a new zone of the type 'Hot Water Temperature'.

   2. In this zone, click on the zone sub-menu, followed by 'Zone Setup'.

   3. Assign the Hot Water Time and Temperature addon you added in step 1.

   4. Set up the zone's schedule as described in the 'Timer Mode' chapter.
