Controlling lights with Genius Room Sensors and Genius Smart Plugs

Controlling a plug-in light with the Genius Hub system

If you have a Room Sensor (PH-WRS-B) or Motion Sensor (PH-WMS-B) that is not being used in a zone to control heating, you can use it to control Smart Plugs. The Genius Hub system is primarily a heating control system, so there can be a delay of a number of seconds (generally about 2–30 seconds) before the Smart Plug responds. This is acceptable for heating, but may not be acceptable for lighting.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Create a new On/Off zone in the app

  2. Go to Zone Setup and assign the Smart Plug and the Room Sensor or Motion Sensor

    1. Set Heating Trigger On After to 0 minutes

    2. Set Heating Trigger Off After to how long you want the Smart Plug to stay on for

  3. Leave the setup pages, and change the zone's mode to Sense mode (see how to enable Sense mode (Beta))

  4. Set up the times of day when you want the Smart Plug to turn on if there is occupancy. Outside these times, occupancy will be ignored

    1. Remember to turn on React to Occupancy when setting up the times

You cannot assign the sensor to the new zone if it is already assigned to another zone, but you can share its channels with a second zone. To use the sensor's Occupancy Trigger channel in another zone, see "Assign a channel" at the bottom of the Adding new devices page.
