The Genius Hub channel is now available as a service on IFTTT! You can now connect your system to any other IFTTT ready service (there's a lot there).

What is IFTTT?

IFTTT is an easy to use service, allowing you connect together smart home devices, online services (like Facebook or Google Drive) and other internet Internet of things Things devices (like Amazon Alexa). IFTTT applets are simple to set up, simply requiring a trigger to watch and an action to carry out, for example, when occupancy is detected in your Living Room, play my Spotify playlist. For those of you who haven’t yet come across IFTTT, it is a service that allows users to connect different services like Google and Dropbox, smart home products, and other connected services, like the fitness app Strava. The services join together through a recipe (now known as an Applet) with a trigger and action providing rich experiences for the user. For example, when I like a song on Spotify, it’s automatically saved to a list on Google docs.IFTTT was created by Linden Tibbets in 2010 and in 6 short years over 1 billion recipes have been generated by users of the IoT platform

How do I get started?

You can create your own applet that will run every time one of the Triggers happens, and takes any of the available actions. You can see the full list at the bottom of the Genius Hub service page.

For inspiration channels include a list of published applets, requiring minimal setup. The Genius Hub channel includes the following:

  • When I go away for a weekend, turn my heating off - Use your google calendar events to override heating periods
  • When I get near home, switch on my heating - Use GPS location on your phone to override your heating at a certain distance from your home
  • Tell Alexa to heat my room - Use voice to control your Genius Hub system
  • At sunset, turn my lights on - Use local weather data to turn on your smart plugs
  • Notify me when occupancy is detected - Use your room sensors to trigger phone notifications
  • Notify me when a room gets up to temperature - Use temperature sensing devices on your system to trigger phone notifications
