Unlike wet underfloor heating, electric underfloor heating cannot be controlled with just an Electric Switch and a Room Sensor/Thermostat. This is due to the temperature of wet underfloor heating being limited by the boiler output temperature, and a mixing valve on the manifold. For Electric Underfloor heating, should it be left on constantly, it will continue to heat up the floor, and may damage the surface or injure the occupant of the room. Therefore a floor-limiting thermostat must be installed in-line with the Genius Hub hardware to stop the floor from getting too hot.

If you want to have time and temperature control from the app, you will need an Electric Switch, and either a Room Sensor or Thermostat, along with a standard floor limiting thermostat, such as one of the following:
1. Heatmiser DS1-E: The DS1-E will limit the floor heating to ensure that it doesn't overheat. You can then configure the DS1-E so that it only uses the floor probe and this can be set to a limit of 20º, 28º or 40º to stop the floor getting too warm.
Here is a link for more information on how to install an Electric Switch and here is the wiring diagram.
2. OCEAN OHMT16: The OHMT16 is a manual dial thermostat which can be adjusted to limit the floor temperature from 4°C to 45°C, with a switch to disable the underfloor heating on the front.
Alternatively, on/off control can be provided by the app and allowing for the ambient temperature to be controlled on the front of the third-party thermostat:
1. Purchase a HeatMat TPS-30, and a Single Channel Receiver from Genius Hub. The Single Channel Receiver will be wired into the setback terminals on the TPS-30 and the TPS-30 with its own floor probe will control the electric underfloor heating.
This means on the Genius Hub app you can set the times that you want the temperature of the room to be at the heated temperature and the times that you want the room to be at the setback temperature. The temperature of the room will need to be set on the TPS-30 display itself. When you go away on holiday and want to turn the electric underfloor heating off you will need to turn it off on the screen of the TPS-30The Genius Hub system can control these types of underfloor to a schedule measuring against the air temperature, whilst providing floor temperature limiting. This is done by using the Powered Room Thermostat. It is a wired thermostat which can control up to 16A (230V) of electric underfloor heating, or a zone valve/circulation pump for wet underfloor heating. As well as an internal air sensor, a floor sensor can be purchased to enable the floor limiting feature. The floor limit is set to 28°C.
On the app, you can set the schedule to control the air temperature throughout the day, and the Powered Room Thermostat retains local control of the floor limiting, to ensure it doesn't overheat should there be a communication problem between the thermostat and the Genius Hub.
Note |
---|
The Electric Switch must not be used as a floor limiting device, as the control of the relay is done by the Genius Hub and so the floor may overheat if communication is lost between the 2 devices. |
